Spring 2007 Challenge – Reuse!

Celebrate Earth Day by Reusing Trash as Art!

To take the Reuse Challenge, hold a recycled art contest within your class, grade or entire school and RSP will provide the prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

This challenge is one of the many challenges that Saint Louis County Department of Health (DOH) is offering to help raise awareness of their 50% waste diversion goal by the year 2010.

Eligibility

Public and private schools located in Saint Louis County.

Challenge Time Period

The contest must be registered with RSP by January 31, 2007, with the contest held between April 1 and May 10, 2007.

Challenge Criteria

The sky is the limit for this contest! You create the guidelines as long as at least 70% of materials used come from a trashcan or recycle bin (cans, paper, plastics, cds, paper towel tubes, electronics, etc). The contest can be trash fashion, all robots, sculpture, or whatever tickles your imagination. Creativity and fun using the concept of reuse are the goals.

To qualify for the RSP prizes please adhere to the following:

  1. Registration form must be received by end of business day January 31, 2007 and include the following:
    • Type of contest (sculpture, jewelry, fashion, mosaic).
    • The scope of the contest (all school, all grade, one class).
    • The grade level(s) included.
  2. Contest must exclude glass, tobacco or alcohol-related materials or containers.
  3. Materials must be clean, free of food and dirt.

Notification

  1. Schools will be notified by February 19, 2007 and given a prize checklist from which they can choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for their winners. Prizes will be scaled accordingly to the size of the contest.
  2. Prize selection, date and time of the school's contest must be returned by March 5, 2007.
  3. Prizes will be delivered or schools may be asked to pick up their prizes at the nearest Saint Louis County Government Office (Clayton or satellite offices located in north, south, and west county).
  4. Names and ages of the prizewinners must be provided to RSP by May 10, 2007.
  5. A RSP representative may attend your contest and take photos of the winning art to be featured in RSP promotions.
